Whilst steady progress is being made on the 8 ball hall the greens are also being upgraded. The shade covers are being replaced and the mechanisms that deploy the shades are being maintained.
On Tuesday 15th Nov. the new door and the windows were fitted. It improves the front of the building!!! Now it looks as if we need some art on the blank walls on either side of the glass. Any suggestions for subject matter?
The new stainless steel benches have been installed and they look terrific.
The latest update:the blocklaying was completed and the new kitchen is in minus the benchtop. We do have a temporary one and are looking forward to the stainless steel within the week
The new floor was poured on Saturday 22nd October. The photos documenting the process are now on the renovations galley.
The old bar is being transformed to become the new home of the 8 ball club. Work has been going on for some time now but on 8th October 2011 the steel beams which support the roof went into place. This clears the room of many of the wooden posts which had been necessary. For more pictures go to renovations gallery
The under surface of green 2 is completed but the final work has been held up by the weather and who knows when that will turn?
The green was awash with water and leaves
The underlay on green 2 faced the onslaught
The raintree will no longer shade the car park
Though tied up the shade cover was damaged.
The kitchen floor was a puddle
The kitchen cupboard's base has expanded!!
The parquetry floor suffered as well.

Australia Day saw a good field of 56 players competing in a two match event. Teams played 12 ends or 1.5 hours and then had a quick cuppa and back to the green for a second match. After the second game we all enjoyed a terrific high tea with damper, corned beef, lamingtons and caramel tarts. Col Hills rink was the runner-up and Lyn Pool's rink won the afternoon. There were many players who dressed for the occasion and this contributed to the success of the day. Congratulations to the organisers and can we have lots more events like this during the year?
On 19th November the STBC held its Christmas Cent Sale. The public supported the event and we had the hall and the bar area filled with eager Cent Salers keen to win some of the terrific prizes on offer. It was the largest cent sale we have had for a decade and all those hard working members who made it happen will be delighted to hear that the treasurer was smiling on Monday!
The dining room was filled
The STBC men's 4's were held on 29th and 30th October. Twenty-four teams competed for the lucrative purse with the Dave Whiting team from Suburban the overall winners.
The first Tuesday is reserved for the running of the Melbourne Cup and it is also ladies social day at the club.Everybody was invited to a relaxed day of sweeps, bowls and lunch and if you chose to dress up for the occasion so much the better. The dress styles differed dramatically with Judy wearing a fetching skirt and shirt and Gus in casual attire. Priscilla chose a more theatrical style with the underwear on the outside ( more favoured by the superheros) while Iris was in an elegant white top and black pant.
It was a very enjoyable day at the club and there are more photos available in the gallery
On Monday 10th Octobeer President Kay and Patroness Marie welcomed players from the region to the President and Patroness' Afternoon. The teams were selected by a random draw and after each set of four ends the players moved up one position. It was especially interesting to see the skips putting down the mats!!!! Judging from the laughter on the green there was much fun and enjoyment had on the day. Many thanks to those who travelled to be with us on this special day.
We run a BBQ each Friday night and also the gooseclub and member's draw. $5 gets you a great BBQ so if you've not planned anything next Friday come and check us out. BBQ is around 6.30pm just after the gooseclub is drawn.

The triples combination of Mark Dempsey, Brian Hitchcock and Mick Barnett from our club had a very successful weekend in the west on the 4th and 5th of September. They completed a clean sweep of their matches to record 5 wins and a +42 score. Their nearest opponents, also with 5 wins, had a margin of +40 so Mick, Bluey and Shommy were relegated to second place by the narrow margin of 2 shots. Well done to the boys from STBC.

On Monday afternoon 21st June at 3pm the event to celebrate 50 years of touring by the NQ Tour Group began This was the culmination of months of hard work by the organising committee and their work paid off hansomely There were photos and more photos and memorabilia and lots of old friends to catch up with and great food. The evening was admirably chaired by Kevin O'Shea and the variety of speakers reminded the guests of the interesting happenings that had occurred over the years. On Saturday afternoon about 1pm there was action aplenty at the clubhouse. Nearly 100 people were seated in the dining room tearing up tickets in preparation for the biannual cent sale. At 1.30pm the fun began. Runners carrying prizes and buckets collected tickets from the participants and the giant raffle began. There were hundreds of prizes and at 3pm the boss called a halt to enable afternoon tea to be served. After a cuppa and a couple of pieces of home baked slice it was back to the sale. The prizes ranged from home cooking to sewing to knick knaks and fruit and vegies. Of course there were the lucky ones who needed a trailor to carry their prizes home but the majority had to be content with a terrific afternoon out and a good chat with neighbours. Thanks to all club members who donated the prizes and slices. Without your generosity these events are not possible. Many thanks also to the runners who will be feeling a little weary after the function.
It is really terrific to see that the ground work to repair the number one green has started. The whisper is that it will be completed in a week

The tractor is loosening up the surface material which will be removed and replaced. But before that could happen it needed some grunt from the fellas

and then it had to be inspected ..."and that is why I missed that shot last Wednesday week"

But seriously the rest of the club would like to thank those men who rolled up their sleeves on Thursday 13th May to lift the carpet to ensure that the repairs to the green could be made
The South Townsville quintet of Pat Farrell, Berit Karlin, Elaine Murdoch, Lee Church and Kay Lehmann won the annual Magpie 5's at Thuringowa on Thursday 6th May. Berit and Kay narrowly won the pairs after being 14 all with one end remaining, whilst Lee, Elaine and Pat had a draw in the triples. Both the rink and the singles had a win in the afternoon. Well done ladies
On the Anzac Day holiday there was a challenge issued at the club. The men against the ladies. The challenge was accepted with alacrity and a wonderful afternoon was had by all. A special thanks to the organisers of the event. More please
